We're glad you found us.
Our counselors and coaches receive specialized training and have years of experience helping clients manage Health & Wellness, specifically: Weight Management, Body Image, Self-Acceptance, Self Esteem, Motivation & Decision Making, Binge Eating, Emotional Eating, Relationships, and Anxiety.
No matter who you come in contact with at RVA Health, be assured you will be treated with respect, warmth, and compassion. Individual therapy, coaching groups, and workshops provide support in a safe environment.
"Just try harder" is not a sustainable, long-term strategy.
"Exercise more and eat less" does not work on a practical level.
Focusing only on diet and exercise leads to frustration.
Most of us have years of evidence to support this.
"Willpower" eventually fails us all. Self-criticism and shame are not great motivators. Instead of recycled, outdated (and frustrating!) approaches to health & behavior change, you will find a different philosophy here. Self-compassion can cultivate the curiosity that will allow you to find your own path to wellness and a positive body image -- for good.
What you eat & how you exercise is unique to you & varies over time. You do not need to feel bad because you’re not doing what someone else is doing. Instead of feeling guilty, we can help you learn to use that energy to learn to identify your own needs and truly take care of yourself. We look at each individual from a holistic perspective that includes physical, social, and psychological needs.
Do your friendships feel one sided? Do you keep dating the "mistakes"? We can help you recognize and change unhelpful emotional habits and thinking styles. Forming and maintaining boundaries is a truly life changing skill!
The secret to motivation can be found in understanding your true needs and embracing your strengths as well as your weaknesses. Stop working against yourself! Motivation flows when you discover your values.
Anxiety can make it difficult to get through the day and impossible to sleep at night. Learn how to understand and manage anxiety and free yourself from the hold it has on you.
If you can figure out how you really feel,
you can figure out what you need.
If you can figure out what you need,
you can find a less caloric way to meet that need.
It’s popular to talk about “setting boundaries,” but what does that really mean? What is a boundary and how do you set one?
. We’ll learn to recognize how boundaries help us enjoy balanced relationships with ourselves, family and friends, food, work, and exercise.
